| Benni relishing off-season break to ‘recharge batteries’

Cape Town – Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says he is looking
forward to taking a rest from football after a demanding first season in charge
with the Citizens.

McCarthy guided City to a fifth-placed finish as well as a
place in the MTN8 final, where they were unfortunate to lose to SuperSport
United on penalties.

Nonetheless, with the campaign now concluded, the former
Bafana Bafana striker says he needs a total break from the game to restore his
energy levels.

He told reporters: “I just need time away from my
players, time away from the boardroom fighting with the chairman [John
Comitis], time away from football in general.

“I want to go home and be with my kids. Go on holiday,
sip cocktails on the beach and come back pitch black and start again. But for
now I need to recharge the batteries.

“I just [want] to disconnect completely, go back to
Scotland and be with my family and enjoy.”

The outfit from the Mother City will officially resume their
top flight program for 2018/19 when they take on fellow high-flyers Maritzburg
United in August in the MTN8. City will travel to Pietermaritzburg for that
encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
